College of Natural Resource Management, Khajura, Banke (CNRM) was established as a constituent college of Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), Nepal by the senate meeting of AFU held on 3rd February, 2020. CNRM Khajura is located in Khajura Rural Municipality ward no. 3 Banke which is 11 Km west from Nepalgunj. CNRM Khajura is locatrd in Lumbini Province. Khajura Bajaar is located in the Banke District in the Mid-West Region of Nepal (Terai region), with a total area of 2816.6 hectares. The climate is subtropical and the temperature varies between a maximum of 46 °C and minimum of -2 °C. The college is ideally located representing western Terai region of Nepal. It most probably falls on the hottest part of Nepal. Yet, being quite isolated and somewhat separated from the hue and cry of city center, it provides peacefull and natural environment. Moreover, densely planted tall trees and greenery due to extensive agriculture has the definite advantage of reducing adverse environmental effect.
Human Resources: Unfortunately there is no permanent nor temporary teachers in this college. Teachers are outsourced, especially from FoA, Rampur. Almost all of the administrative as well as technical and account staffs are appointed by the University permanently."Two support staff" are appointed by the college itself on Daily Wage basis. Altogether there are 11 staff members in the college. Hence there are currently quite sufficient human resources exept the shortcoming of the permanent University Teachers. This shortcoming is expected to be fulfilled in the near future as the University Service Commission has recently copleted the written examination of those who applied for the post of the permanent University Teacher in AFU.
Infrastructure The college at present is running in Janta Namuna Secondary School which has provided a building block to run our academic and administrative activities. 3 houses are taken on rent for guest house, prinicipal's quarter and a store room. The college is fully dependent on school even to use toilet and water. It is because there was a long vacant of campus chief in the campus. Rcently after the appoinment of new Campus Chief, a tubewell has been bored to serve the minimum requirements of water. Canteen, Toilet, Cycle stand, Water Tank is in the process of construction for which legal proceedings are undergoing. The 9 bigaha land of college is confined by a fence of brbed wire. The University has formulated the policy of replicating the same type of Academic Building as that of CNRM Puranchaur, Kaski, of which Design and construction work has been complete. Hence the Architectural Design remaining the same, minor or whole modification may take place in Structural Design. So soil test is needed to accomplish the Structural Design of the building. In this context Soil Test for the construction of Academic Building has been complete.
Soil Test: Soil Testing is a usual engineering process to conduct for such type of Academic Building. How many boreholes to be made and to what depth the borehole is to be bored largely depends on the size of the building and the type of soil strata beneath the ground. Based on the nature and size of the building a structural engineer generally advises how many holes and how deep holes to be drilled. In our case Senior structural engineer and former DDG of DUDBC Dwarika Shrestha, has voluntarily provided us his invaluable advice to conduct test on 3 holes upto 12 meter depth each. We are immensely grateful to his kind cooperation free of cost. The Soil Investigation work was entrusted to Sanjujain Geotech Firm Pvt.Ltd. Lalitpur -4, Bagdoreport.
The objective of the soil investigation is to determine the soil formation at the project site so as to derive engineering parameters for the design of the foundation of the proposed structures. The specific objective of the consulting services:
To do the detailed site investigation and geotechnical investigation of the site
To submit the detailed site and soil investigation report including engineering properties, design parameters, bearing capacity, coefficient of sub-grade reaction etc.
Laboratory Investigation and Conclusion: 1. As per the site investigation results and then analysis associated for the measure of liquefaction, it shall be noted that there is no possibility of liquefaction. 2. The allowable bearing pressures is found to be 167.14 KN/m2 for isolated foundation of 2m x 2m
Masterplan/Land Use Plan: We are to start the infrastructural development of the college right from the very initial stage. We have virtually nothing except bare land in terms of physical facilities. There are so many buildings and facilities to be located in the land coherently and judiciously. Haphazard way of construction may create a lot of problems in the long run. So well planned development of various types of buildings and infrastructures are a must . With this end in view, masterplan more spcifically land use masterplan has been complete. While preparing this Masterplan almost all the stakeholders were involved all the way from students to staff members of the college to local community, municipality representative, agricultural scientists and experts, local intellects and dignitaries, social workers etc. The Consultant, Reliance Engineering Solution PvtLtd provided its technical expertise to make this masterplan.
Workshop: With a view to get feedback and suggestions from various cross section of the community a one day workshop was organized on 15th Aswin 2078. Participants in the workshop included Representatives from Khajura Rural Municipaliy, local social workers, intellects and dignitaries, agricultural scientists from various agricultural offices including NARC of Banke.
Academic Building: The University has given Top priority to the academic building to construct. To this end various engineering drawins are needed.
Architectural Drawing: As per the Policy of the University to maintain uniformity in the aesthetic view of the buildings in all its constituent campuses, the hard copy of the Architectural Drawing has been copied from College of Natural Resource Management, Puranchaur, Kaski.
Current Status Currently, CNRM-Khajura is running in a building provided by Janata Namuna Secondary School, Khajura. The master plan of the college is final, soil test report has been recieved and it is expected that the Academic Building will be completed in the next 12 months and other buildings will be constructed in close coordination with AFU Central Office.
Academic Program: 4 years (8 Semester) Undergraduate Program in Agriculture, B.Sc.Ag Criteria for Admission: As per the Entrance Examination Result published by AFU. Courses and Delivery: As per the AFU Bulletin.
